THE STORY
The video game “Overwatch” is a first person shooter released on Playstation 4, XBox One, and PC. The game was created by Blizzard, a company famous for the “Diabolo” games. There are currently 24 characters that players can select to play different game modes against each other.
Sixty years in the the future, robots called “omnics” try to take over the world. A small group of heroes stood up to the robots to save the world and becomes known as Overwatch. Overwatch had two leaders: Jack Morrison, known as “Soldier 76” and Gabriel Reyes, who is called “Reaper”. After the robot war, the two fight and they both die, but they come back and now lead opposite teams.
THE GOOD
There are currently 14 maps and seven game modes in “Overwatch”. Playing these game modes gets the player experience, which helps earn loot boxes. The player can open these loot boxes to get skins for all characters. There is also a competitive mode, which is almost like every other game mode, except it costs the player skill rating points if they lose. There are many ranks in “Overwatch”: bronze being the lowest at 1-1499 SR. Then there is silver at 1500-1999 SR, gold at 2000-2499 SR, Platinum at 2500-2999 SR, Diamond at 3000-3999 SR, and Master at 4000- 5000 SR.
The game also has an arcade mode with special game modes. There is a 3v3 mode in the arcade along with the new event, Uprising. Blizzard also has added mystery heroes, which basically allows the player to increase their skills as a character, and when the player dies, it randomly swaps to another random hero.
“Overwatch” also has lots of different categories of heroes like tank, support, defense and assaultheroes. The player can win “Play of the Game”, which is the best move in a specific match. Everyone gets to watch the player defeat his or her enemy.
“Overwatch” has many holiday events with special game modes and skins, like a Chinese New Year event. There was also a Halloween event called “Junkinstein’s Revenge”. These special events add a lot of variety.
THE BAD
“Overwatch” has a lot of good features and some bad ones. One bad feature is that some heroes, like Bastion, are overpowered. There are also some underpowered heroes, like Junkrat. Players can have trouble balancing their team. There are also a few bugged characters in the game like Mei and Genj i. Mei is supposed to freeze characters and make them slow down, but right now, that doesn’ t happen, which can make her useless. The game also does not offer a story mode. The only way to play the game is to play against other players online. That means that players on PS4 and XBox One need a subscription to play the game.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Bottom line, this game deserves an “A+” because of it’s unique characters, it’s awesome graphics, and its special events.
